A Nice Start to the Holidays

The annual “pre-Christmas Capital Golden Skiers Pot Luck”, hosted at Gisela and John Storm’s townhouse on Saturday, December 10, 2011 was well attended by members.  The home, decorated for the holidays, was a welcoming sight for the attendees who brought and shared their dishes.  There was lots of warmth and camaraderie from all which made the gathering a delightful interaction of fellowship.  A proof of the good time was that the “Table of Plenty” was empty at the close of the party. We thank the Storms and wish all a safe, happy and healthy holiday season, and a great ski season!

Weather permitting, we will have weekly ski trips to Ski Liberty or White Tail each Wednesday or Thursday. It is about 1 ½ hours by car from the Washington area and the mountains are usually very free of people!  So, you can get in lots of runs and leave early for the trip back home. And, it’s a good way to limber up for those ski trips to more challenging mountains! Decisions on ski trips will be made by Monday or Tuesday of each week. Those interested should call Dietrich Roesler at 703-768-2456 who can assist in arranging car pools

Ten minutes of stair climbing burns 89 calories, versus 13 for the same amount of time standing on an escalator.  And, if you mix cookie dough by hand instead of using an electric mixer, it strengthens your grip, biceps and shoulder muscles – and burns about 170 calories an hour instead of 80 for standing and holding!
